How we compare prices

A useful comparison needs more than a discount percentage. Check the reference price, product size and total cost before you choose an offer. This page explains the price information you see on SHPPNGTRLLY.

Price sources and coverage

We use automated imports of retailer product and price information to build the catalogue. The available information differs by retailer and product. Our stores directory shows the retailer pages you can browse.

Comparisons use listings in our catalogue. They do not include every retailer, product or offer. A lowest-price label is limited to the data behind that comparison. It is not a guarantee of the lowest price in Australia. Where a price-check time is shown, it tells you when we checked the price. It does not reserve that price for your purchase.

Reference prices and savings

Deal cards compare the listed price with a reference price. Where available, we use a market reference price from a matched retailer listing, adjusted for quantity. Otherwise, we use the retailer reference price supplied with the listing.

A market reference uses a matched listing's regular or reference price. It is not necessarily another retailer's current sale price. A retailer reference can be a regular price or a recommended retail price. The crossed-out amount does not always mean that this retailer previously sold the product for that amount.

The percentage saving is the difference between the reference price and the listed price, divided by the reference price, then multiplied by 100. Displayed savings can be rounded.

For example, a $15 price compared with a $20 reference is a $5 difference, or 25%. This is an illustration, not a current offer. The percentage alone does not tell you whether a different retailer has a lower price.

Pack sizes and unit prices

Product comparison pages group offers for a matched product. Check the model, size, flavour, colour and pack quantity on the retailer page. A similar title or picture is not enough to confirm that two offers are equivalent.

For bundles, distinguish the full pack price from the price per item. Where the quantity is reliable, we show a per-unit comparison separately. A pack of four items for $12 costs $3 per item, but you must buy the full pack. This is an example, not an offer.

Compare unit prices on the same basis, such as per 100 g or per litre. A lower pack price can still mean a higher cost for the amount you receive.

Price history and Amazon exclusions

Where price history is available, it reflects prices recorded by SHPPNGTRLLY. It may miss price changes between checks or prices before a listing entered the catalogue. Historical low-price labels refer to those records, not every price ever offered by a retailer.

Price history excludes Amazon.com.au. Amazon.com.au price history, historical low-price labels and price alerts are not available on SHPPNGTRLLY. Amazon offers use current price information, subject to the price-check time and availability notice shown with the offer.

Before you buy

Use the retailer page and checkout to confirm the offer:

• Check the current price and the total payable, including delivery costs.
• Confirm stock and delivery availability for your location.
• Check the seller, product option, condition and pack quantity.
• Check membership, coupon, minimum-spend and subscription conditions where they apply.

The prices shown on SHPPNGTRLLY can differ from the final checkout total. Delivery costs and offer conditions can change which option costs less. A price or deal label does not assess product quality or suitability for you.
